Featured: All Players Rated FIDE 2700 and Above!

The Live Top List has been an unofficial chess rating list that covered all players with live ratings of 2700 and above in the FIDE rating system. The official FIDE list is published 6 times each year, while this list has been updated and published as games and tournaments have been played, typically with daily updates during tournaments featuring top players.

In 2011 the work of keeping the site updated proved to require more than time and resources allowed for, and since I never managed to bring myself completely out of the loop, despite excellent help from Dambi, I've decided to stop providing live updates. The site lives on, though, currently as a live rating archive for the period from April 2008 to August 2011 - a total of 778 updates. More rating related content can be expected to be added to this site later, hopefully including both articles, statistics and more.

For anyone wanting to stay current on live ratings, I recommend going to 2700chess.com or visiting Dambi's ChessPro based forum where ratings typically are updated once per day and often even more frequently. I think it's great that someone with more time on their hands have taken up the challenge of continuing what I started, and I wish all of them good luck!

The Live Top List Archive

The Live Top List has become the Live Top List Archive - for the time being. The site will not go away, and all the 778 lists published between April 2008 and August 2011 will be kept around as historical items. I also intend to improve the look-up mechanisms so that it becomes easier to browse and look at the lists and the players that entered the lists during the period updates were actively produced.

I'm happy that so many found my site useful during the 3+ years I published live ratings. I'm also grateful for all the help I got from numerous people to stay up to date, ranging from normal chess fans to managers and elite players themselves. I do intend to continue to provide rating-related data on this site, so it might be worthwhile to check back at some later time. However, I expect to announce new content here through other, wide-read sources, so don't strain your mouse finger unnecessarily. Meanwhile I recommend going to www.2700chess.com for daily rating updates - they're doing a great job!

Building and maintaining chess sites can be a lonely undertaking. Fortunately we sometimes help each other out, and then it becomes a little less lonely and much more fun! Please take some time to visit a few of my friends and associates - their sites are well worth visiting!

Protest against WC Cycle Change

When the World Championship Cycle was abruptly changed in 2008, after it was already in motion, many people made audible protests. I've archived my objections for future reference.
